Find A Grave – without visiting a cemetery…

Posted on 23 Jul 2015 By The Carolina Nerd

Does visiting graveyards or cemeteries freak you out?  Do it online…

FindAGrave.com is an online resource for genealogists and researchers.  The site currently boasts over 130 million listings for graves, along with photos and historical data.  It also offers mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Although Find A Grave is full of good information, there are some errors.  Most of the site is maintained by volunteers, who sometimes provide inaccurate data on family members and relationships, or post a printed obituary which does not match the person at the grave.  Therefore, be sure to verify any historical information found on the site with other sources.

While visiting, be sure to check out the sections on “Interesting Monuments” and “Interesting Epitaphs.”

And if you have time to contribute, sign up to be a volunteer.
